When things get torn down, you must rebuild. Around the world, societies have been shaken. Travel shut down, businesses closed, people stopped leaving their homes, and governments floundered for answers.
Everything turned upside down. But now it’s time to get back on our feet.
5 Ideas For Rebuilding After The Pandemic
1. Get out of survivor mode.
In nearly every country, citizens have been through a series of dictations from the authorities. What to wear, how to clean, where to go and what we can or cannot do, was dictated to us by others.
So far, it seems it has slowed the virus and saved lives.
However, by being submissive, we were forced into a sort of survival mode. For months we strived to keep ourselves and those around us safe. Believing that if we flattened the curve, things probably would get back to normal. If you’re still waiting, you are probably still in survivor mode.
Ideas For Rebuilding After The Pandemic
- Stop waiting for things to get easier. Typically, things don’t get easier. Just look at it like weight training. Adding more weight increases resistance and causes muscles to tear. Then as they rebuild themselves, they get stronger. If we wait for things to get easier, we will never rebuild our lives.
- Start Moving. Isaac Newton said: Every object persists in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line. Unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it. So, stop being at rest because you are the only force that can start yourself moving again.
- Build on momentum. Momentum is a term used in physics to describe the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity. This basically means that the larger the mass and velocity of a moving object, the harder it is to stop. We can build positive momentum as we begin moving in the right direction. Once we get up and start moving that is.
- Realize setbacks will come. Life is always a series of ups and downs. You have made it this far and will get through once again. Like we do in bowling. The more pins you knock down the higher your score. Even if we throw a gutter ball or two.
2. Stop fretting about what you lost and focus on what’s left.
During the Corvid-19 pandemic it seems 4 common issues arrived.
- Fear that things may never get back to normal (or what the media coined as ‘the new normal’). Whatever that means.
- Losing our jobs with the possibility of future revenue streams drying up.
- Trying to maintain our sanity and keeping busy while waiting for things to open up.
- Hoping our elected officials figure things out, so we could get back to our lives.
Now after all is said and done, its easy to believe we lost ground. Jobs aren’t coming back, the US is facing riots and looting, politicians are politicizing everything, and the media is back to its old adage: All bad news. All the time.
With all this, its easy to worry about not just what we lost. But sometimes you have to take inventory of what you have left and start picking up the pieces.
Ideas For Rebuilding After The Pandemic
- Make a list of all the things you lost.
- Make a list of all the things you have left.
- Now, figure out how to accept the things you’ve lost and how you can use the things you still have to your advantage.
- Take a realistic inventory of all the things left at your disposal and what you need to get going.
- Start making a comeback plan by integrating what you have left with what you are still able to do.
- Finally, like the old saying goes – plan your work and work your plan.
3. Focus on what you can do, not what’s been done to you.
It’s tough when we lose our jobs, and even tougher when millions joined you. But once we get over the shock of lowered or even removed income, one must find ways to survive.

- Accept your situation, but don’t expect it to continue. This requires a complete transformation of your attitude. Check out – 6 Principles for Making Better Decisions – for more advice.
- Battle with negativity. Every time your mind wanders towards the negative, force it back towards your goals of rebuilding.
- Focus on the reality of your life now. Like Master Oogway said in the first Kung Fu Panda Movie, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That’s why they call it the present.”
- Take action. Stop whining and start moving. Make a list of what you are able to do and start doing it.
4. Make your own rebuilding plan.
Think about it. We make plans for everything. Blueprints for buildings. Game plans for sporting events. Recipes for cooking. Business Plans for Companies. Campaigning for Politicians. Pretty much all successful endeavors require a plan. And your life is just the same.

5. Find help
As individuals, we did not get where we are by ourselves. If we are honest, there were many who helped along the way. Some in a big way and others just chance encounters that set us in a new direction.
And we all probably could use some help once again.
During this time of crisis, everyone pretty much worked together to get out of this. And now we must work together if we are to start again. But, finding the right person of course is easier said than done.
Ideas For Rebuilding After The Pandemic
- Try contacting the people who helped you in the past. They might be able to help again.
- Twitter, Facebook, Instagram followers are not really your friends. Not really. Although we may find good advice, most wouldn’t go out of their way for us. But there are some who may. Focus on these.
- Reach out to the people or organizations that could help rebuild your life. And don’t stop until you find those who can.
- Find people you can help. Be proactive. There are much less fortunate people out there than us. They probably need help more than we do. Focusing on helping others, maybe just the thing we need to help ourselves.
