Sometimes, a person has just had enough. For me, the time is now. But it’s not what you think.
I’m not generally offended, angry or feel enmity about anything really.
But if I were, it would be at all the emotionally sensitive people trying to make their opinion the ultimate determination of what is proper in society. Both as a set of belief’s and a course for action.
In a sense, I am offended by the offended.
And it’s not what we typically cover at OneMeanDream. However, today I had to speak up.
America, the offended nation and four questions before we move on.
- If we obliterate the historically offensive, will we doom ourselves to repeat that history?
- If you cancel what you find offensive, do you risk being canceled by someone who is offended by you?
- Have the ideals of social justice been hijacked by a small and emotionally unstable group calling themselves social activists?
- Is it truly progressive to tear down, destroy, degrade, and demonize that in which you disagree?
The answers to these questions, in my humble opinion is yes, yes, yes and no!
The Dangers of an offended nation.
Tearing down statues, canceling shows, and changing the names of things is like rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship. It may look like action is taking place. But will it really lead to a change in societal ills?
No, it won’t. Because one person’s action to remove what offends them will eventually offend someone else. And after time, all you have left is everyone feeling morally outraged at one thing or another. And since misery loves company, people tend to break into factions to find other equally offended individuals.
Finally, if left unchecked, the morally outraged will justify any action. Whether that be tearing down a statue, burning buildings, looting a business, requiring a purity test, or even destroying those they feel are responsible for their perceived offense.
The quickest way to destroy a nation is to demonize and then penalize one group over another. Turning a generally unified nation into small burning fires of dissension and revolution. If those in power bow down to the demands of the offended, reason will eventually be replaced by the destructive nature of unchecked emotions.
Just look into the history of fallen nations and you will see.
