Want to Find Love? Just Ask Charlize Theron

As a university professor, I often use discussion groups. It helps students rehash and assimilate lectured material in a personal way. During these times, the topic of human relationships often arise. The most common theme is the students’ desire to find a boyfriend or girlfriend. Yet, for many, this seems a long shot. But now we have the answer. Just ask Charlize Theron.

Because just yesterday, she indicated that she’s been waiting for a long time… For someone to ask her out!

The interaction happened during an interview with Kevin Frazier of Entertainment Tonight. During the discussion about dating, Charlize Theron said: “I’ve been single for 10 years, it’s not a long shot. Somebody just needs to grow a pair and step up… I’m shockingly available.”

The Long Shot, Fact or Fiction

She didn’t say this out of the blue. Her response came when Kevin Frazier said: “For the average guy, it’s a long shot.” Referring to the chance of someone actually dating a person like Charlize. Her response to this???

IT REALLY ISN’T!

To me, Kevin’s statement just shows how prevalent and erroneous the idea of ‘the long shot’ truly is. Especially when it comes to dating people that others feel are unattainable for the average person. Even the most popular celebrities can fall victim to this fictional thinking.

In all seriousness, this short interaction pretty much blows apart the ‘long shot’ myth. And it isn’t just about dating or finding true love. It’s about accomplishing anything you want. Even if others tell you it’s out of your reach. Here are a few lessons learned.

  • If you’re single: There’s probably several people you interact with that are just waiting for you to ask them out. My advice? If you like them, just ask them. Don’t let the fear of rejection or intimidation stop you. Go ahead and invite them to a meal, drinks or some other activity they might enjoy.
  • If you need a raise or promotion: Make of list of why you deserve it, or what you’ll do to earn it. Then go ask.
  • If you need help: Write down as many people who have the right personalities or skills to help, and what benefits they’ll receive by helping. Now go ask.
  • If you have a dream: All great accomplishments start with someone doing something. Why not you? Besides people love getting on bandwagons. Why shouldn’t it be yours?

Many times people are just waiting for someone to ask… And that person just might be you.

Just Ask Charlize Theron

By the time you read this, Charlize probably has had thousands of date requests. But if there’s someone you think is out of your reach, why not give it a try anyway. Like Miss Theron, maybe they too are just waiting for someone to “grow a pair”.
